A couple of months ago, I did back-of-the-envelope calculations on basic CF stats. How many pills do I take? I also take azithromycin and vitamin D three times a week. Over the course of a week, I take 90 non-enzyme pills.

Patient and Family Resources: Cystic Fibrosis Program
Adults with cystic fibrosis are like any other, most want to find the person of their dreams, settle down, get married and have children. Although cystic fibrosis affects the reproductive system, most women have no difficulties getting pregnant. Typically, pregnant moms with CF have healthy pregnancies and their babies are born just fine. While the disease does not cause infertility in women, treatments for the disease can cause problems for some women. Some of the medications female CFers need to take daily can interfere with the levels of bacteria and acidity in the vagina, making them more susceptible to thrush. Male CF patients are usually infertile. The absence of sperm in the semen makes it impossible to fertilize an egg, and this absence may also make the semen thinner.
Cystic fibrosis CF is a genetic disorder that primary affects the lungs and the digestive system. CF involves a defective gene that triggers the body to secrete mucus via exocrine glands. This causes digestive juices and sweat in a thick and sticky consistency. Normally, these secreted liquids are used by the body as lubricants, but if they become thick, they block the ducts, passageways, and tubes.
A healthy diet for cystic fibrosis CF addresses the primary challenge of the disease—to provide ample macronutrients such as fats, proteins, and carbohydrates for normal weight maintenance, growth, and development. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that results in the body making thick mucus. This mucus accumulation can prevent the small intestine from absorbing vital nutrients, including fats and vitamins. The disease may also interfere with the normal function of the pancreas , inhibiting enzymes needed to break down food. People with CF—particularly children and teenagers—must eat extra calories and nutrients to help them gain weight adequately, as well as enabling a strong immune system to fight off infection.
